Each Friday I will be uploading a blog post entitled "FRESH FRIDAYS", this will detail my new and need to know LOVES, whether it be in Music - singles, albums and artists, Fashion - new trends or key pieces and Makeup - new ways to wear etc. You get the picture. This Friday features one of my new favourite artists DUA LIPA. As you can imagine the industry is highly saturated with female singer songwriters, singers like Debbie Harry and Madonna have paved the way for bad ass females to be empowered within music and to go ahead and do their thing. However it is only every so often that you get female artists who truly identify with the way Harry and Madonna worked their magic - being individual, true to themselves and not giving a f*ck what anyone else thought. Dua Lipa is an artist I believe does exactly that.

Dua Lipa is a 20 year old singer songwriter, raised in London with kick ass style and a personality to match. After heavily stalking her Instagram page you see how effortlessly cool this girl is, and not in the artificial Instagram model way but in a way that she's not afraid to show you exactly who she is. Snaps include neon coloured fur coats, bright pink wigs, watermelon leggings and Disney characters, I mean who wouldn't want to hang out with her? And lets not forget why we're talking about her in the first place - her amazing music! Although she has a love of Hip-Hop; favourites being A$AP Rocky and Chance the Rapper (Check out her cover of Cocoa Butter Kisses), she is not ashamed of being defined as a Pop artist - growing up it was artists like Destiny's Child that really inspired her. This mingling of genres perhaps is what makes Dua Lipa's sound so individual, that and her stunning deep vocals. Her debut single New Love was released online during the summer and was produced by Andrew Wyatt and Emile Hayne - both of whom have worked with stella artists FKA Twigs and Lana Del Rey, but the track that has really gained her notoriety is her current release Be The One. The single is a catchy electro-pop record and has all the elements for a great hit - I certainly haven't stopped playing it since it was released!

Most recently she has been picked up by BBC Radio 1, who have played the track non stop and have also included her on the BBC Sound of 2016 long-list; home to past winners Adele, Years and Years, Ellie Goulding. Her album is due to be released next year but if you can't wait she has a bunch of great covers waiting for you on her Soundcloud AND she has just announced her first UK tour which will run through January and February 2016 (I for one will definitely be there). It's only the beginning but I sense great things for this artist and I just can't wait for her to do an awesome collab with a Highstreet designer so we can all wear furry coats and watermelon leggings! If you haven't already check out my last post, all about my December favourites.
